Herr W's MONKEY KOMBAT Arena “Herr W’s Monkey Kombat Arena” is – as you might already have experienced or read from the header – a “Quake III Arena” (TM) mod, turning that classic egoshooter into a cartoony frag-fest. The gameplay is slightly tuned, but the main thing about this is the comic style. ... Talking of which: This clever technique, introduced to the Quake3 community by the famous Conor O'Kane (would be nice if you take the time to visit him and all the other helpful spirits in the >credits section) doubles the polycount! - Which is particularly bad as I was to lazy to build lowpoly distance models. So be smart and check the >system requirements before starting to download... I originally created those figures for a 3D point-and-click adventure, but soon had to realize that this sort of game would be much to extensive to be done by one. I managed to develope a (buggy) adventure engine using the “Virtools Dev” (TM) kit, but quit the work on it even before the first puzzle or storyline was thought out. (For those of you who are interested or just have nothing better to do: The building site can be inspected >here) So... No guybrushing around on mysterious beaches for now, but straight forward easy-on-the-brain killing all that moves. At least I succeeded in getting something into the title which hopefully reminds of an adventure. - Better than nothing, isn’t it! (Yep, the seniors among you are right: I’m talking about that pretty annoying puzzle in the fourth part of the none-the-less glorious “Monkey Island” (TM) series...) Have fun! By the way... Is anyone out there who knows if (and if, how) Q3-stuff can be (easily) converted to run on the “Doom 3”-engine? Might draw more attention there these days...
All new figures, items and sets by Herr W. Music samples in the menu are from >OBITUARY's "Turned Inside Out" (buy their records!) Special thanks go to: The genii (or are they geniuses?) at >id Software, >Conor O'Kane for providing that fine cartoon technique, everyone at >PlanetQuake and >Polycount, the >GTK Radiant crew, the guys at Code3arena (especially Ian McGinniss who coded that nice scrolling credits), the >free_sound project, and, last but not least, YOU for spending your time with the apes!
